Azkoitia has begun the Interpueblos Pelota Championship on a high note, with its hand and rubber pala teams achieving victories in their initial games. Last Friday, the representatives of the Oteiza pelota club's hand team competed against Zegama, winning 2-1. Meanwhile, the rubber pala players had their first fixture in Zarautz, where they also returned home with a 1-2 win.
In the hand game held at the Gurea fronton, the results were as follows: in the cadet category, Joanes Juaristi and Denis Santos were unable to overcome Zegama, with the match ending 4-22. However, Azkoitia's players demonstrated dominance in the youth and senior categories. In youth, Jon Arregi and Julen Etxaniz won 22-12, and in the senior category, the local team secured a clear victory, allowing Zegama to score only one point; Mikel Aranbarri and Alex Juaristi won 22-1.
In rubber pala, Azkoitia's representatives also won two matches and lost one. In the first match, played on the full court, Iker Epelde won 7-20. The second was a doubles match, where Marcos Azpiroz and Igor Larrañaga lost 20-16. Finally, within the seven-frame game, Jokin Aizpuru won 5-20.
The representatives of the Oteiza pelota club will now play their return matches at home.
