The Ertzaintza has arrested in Bilbao the alleged leader of a graffiti gang and his partner, accused of causing damage to train and metro units, and assaulting security guards in Urduliz.

The Ertzaintza has arrested a 34-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman in Bilbao, both alleged members of a graffiti group known as 'Gudaris'. They are accused of causing significant damage by painting graffiti on train and metro units. Additionally, investigation proceedings have been opened against three other members of the group for their alleged involvement in an assault on two security guards in Urduliz last April.
The Territorial Criminal Investigation Service of Bizkaia (SICTB) launched an investigation at the beginning of this year, following several complaints about damage to Metro Bilbao and Euskotren carriages due to graffiti. The total cost of the damage exceeds 21,000 euros. These inquiries led to the identification of the perpetrators.
The arrested man is considered the leader of the 'Gudaris' group, which also includes his partner, who was also arrested, and the three other men under investigation. The group is believed to have operated in a structured and continuous manner in various towns in Bizkaia, such as Berango, Bilbao, Gernika, Busturia, Basauri, Urduliz, Etxebarri, and Zaldibar, and even in Gipuzkoa. Their objective was to create graffiti, damaging public and private infrastructure, particularly in the railway sector. They are attributed with at least 11 actions so far this year. After completing the necessary police procedures, the arrested individuals have been brought before the Judicial Authority.

"The guards tried to prevent the graffiti, but they were attacked by the group members. One of the guards fell to the ground and received numerous kicks, punches, and 'even blows with spray cans all over his body, including his head'."

An Ertzaintza spokesperson
Some of the investigated and arrested individuals have been involved in similar acts since 2014. On two occasions, they confronted security guards, causing significant injuries. They are implicated in the events that occurred on April 14, 2026, at the Urduliz metro station of Metro Bilbao. When the guards tried to prevent the graffiti, they were attacked. One guard had his glasses broken and suffered multiple bruises after the beating. Following the assault, the group fled the scene. Metro Bilbao provided the Ertzaintza with security camera footage to identify the assailants.
