Starting Wednesday, July 1st, Tolosa City Council will prohibit parking in Zumardi Txiki, repurposing the area into a public space for citizens and pedestrians.

From next Wednesday, July 1st, parking will be prohibited in Zumardi Txiki, which will be transformed into a space for citizens and pedestrians to enjoy. In response, the City Council has implemented a new OTA (regulated parking) system and increased the number of resident parking spaces during the day and overnight parking facilities.
As reported by the Tolosa municipal government in meetings held weeks ago with residents of the Old Town and local businesses, the eviction from Zumardi Txiki will begin next Wednesday. The area will cease to be a parking zone, in line with the municipality's Sustainable Mobility Plan.
This change will allow for the recovery of the space's original form, providing Tolosa with a new climate refuge. Parking spaces will be removed, and the area will be developed as a meeting point, leisure zone, and green space.
To address residents' needs following the suspension of these parking areas, the City Council has created new spaces on the ascent to Izaskun, on Soldadu street, and on the right bank of Rondilla street. Additionally, 20 more spaces are planned, and 62 additional spaces have been allocated in Arrillaga square for Old Town residents.
As further measures for nighttime parking, resident overnight parking will be maintained in the Belate neighborhood. The Alhóndiga parking facility will offer 90 overnight passes at an affordable price (between 20 and 30 euros per month), and the new OTA ordinance will ensure a more equitable distribution of resident permits.
