Maider Unanue from Arama and Oier Zubeldia from Amezketa have won the Txindoki Vertical Kilometer, also securing the Basque Country championship in a race heavily impacted by strong winds.

The Vertical Kilometer race, which took place from the Larraitz hermitage (Abaltzisketa) to the summit of Txindoki, was challenged by strong gusts of wind that emerged mid-morning. Out of over 200 registered runners, 160 started the race, and only one did not complete the course.
In this demanding event, Maider Unanue (46:22) and Oier Zubeldia (36:50) were the fastest, thus being crowned champions of the Basque Country Vertical Kilometer. A prize of 2,000 euros was offered for anyone who could beat the record set by Juan Mari Garin in 1993 (33:34), but this time the record remained unbroken.

"Everything went smoothly, and the only inconvenience was the wind."

This year's edition featured a new organizing team, and according to a member of the organization, “everything went smoothly,” with the wind being the sole challenge. Thanks were extended to the volunteers and runners for their positive attitude, and plans are already underway for next year's event.
