The Department of Security has issued a strong condemnation regarding public posters that appeared near an educational center in Leioa. These posters featured the image of an Ertzaina (Basque police officer) and a message stating, "this is the cop responsible for the operation that beat up the members of the humanitarian flotilla. he is a violent guy with and without uniform. lives in astrabudua, remember his face." This officer had previously been targeted on social media following incidents at Loiu airport.
Given the seriousness of the events, the Department expresses its support and solidarity to the agent and his family. It also reiterates the statement made by the Security Councillor on May 26 in the Basque Parliament: "We will not permit the digital or physical hunting of any Ertzaina, public representative, or militant." Furthermore, the Department extends its support to all agents who make up the Ertzaintza.
The Department of Security had previously reported the matter to the Prosecutor's Office, resulting in an existing legal complaint. Following these new incidents, the department's legal services have been informed to take action against the perpetrators. The Ertzaintza has also initiated an investigation to identify the individuals responsible for these public postings.
