The incident occurred shortly after 11:00 AM, when the fall prevented the cyclist from continuing his planned route. According to the Basque Government's Department of Security, firefighters and Osakidetza (Basque Health Service) were dispatched to the scene to provide initial assistance.

After receiving first aid, a mountain-equipped helicopter from the Ertzaintza (Basque Police) transported the cyclist to Cruces Hospital. The Bizkaia Fire Brigade, the Ertzaintza, and health services were involved in the rescue operation.
