Portugalete has announced its initial signings for the upcoming Segunda RFEF season, following a historic campaign that included the Copa del Rey and promotion.

Portugalete has experienced a historic season that will be difficult to forget. Firstly, its participation in the Copa del Rey, overcoming the first round after a narrow victory against Valladolid. Secondly, by finishing in first position in Group IV of Tercera RFEF with 78 points, securing their presence in Segunda RFEF a month before the season's end. Consequently, the 'gualdinegro' club, which had not competed in the third tier of Spanish football since the 2020-21 season, is now revealing its first signings for the upcoming year.
One of the new players joining the La Florida squad for the 2026-27 campaign is former player Jorge García. He returns to Portugalete from Sestao River, currently competing in Segunda RFEF, thirteen years after his initial stint with the coastal town's team. The 33-year-old footballer played 35 matches last season, scoring 7 goals.
Oier Erdozia, with previous experience at SD Deusto and Aurrera Ondarroa, also arrives at Portugalete from the aforementioned green-and-black team. The 23-year-old midfielder played 31 matches last campaign. Forward Jon López is the latest announced reinforcement. A product of Santutxu and Eibar's youth academies, he joins from the 'armero's' reserve team, having played 34 games during the 2025-26 season.
Six renewals have also been confirmed by the club at the start of the week, with four players extending their contracts: Ibon González, Yeray Cuello, Alain Lete, and Gorka Tapiador. González will become the player with the most tenure in the current squad, as it will be his sixth season with the 'gualdinegro' club. Following him, Cuello, with four seasons, will continue his path. Lete and Tapiador, on the other hand, will be embarking on their second year in Portugalete.
Joining them are central defender Ander González, ‘Gonza’, and left-back Iñaki Recio. Both accumulated over 30 appearances last season and will have the opportunity to enjoy promotion to the third tier of state football.
Egoitz Bilbao, aiming for his second year. In addition to the players, another significant renewal is that of Egoitz Bilbao. The 'gualdinegro' coach, as the 'jarrillero' team announced last week, will continue to lead the team for another season. After a first campaign where he managed to position Portugalete as 'the first champion across the top five tiers of state football', the La Florida team seeks continuity of the project with this decision.
