The 'Scenic Eclipse', a superyacht featuring a submarine and a Basque design, has docked in Getxo this Saturday. The vessel, measuring 168 meters in length and flying the flag of the Bahamas, represents one of the most significant visits of the year for the Port of Bilbao. Hailed as the world's first exploration yacht, it accommodates 114 double suites, ranging from 32 m² for the Verendah Suite to 232 m² for the Owner Suite, all equipped with private balconies and floor-to-ceiling windows.
Onlookers near the Getxo pier can observe a 22-meter wide vessel carrying a submarine capable of diving to 300 meters, with capacity for eight passengers and a pilot. This submarine allows for the discovery of underwater wonders like corals and diverse marine fauna. The yacht also offers inflatable boats, diving equipment, and kayaks. For aerial excursions, it is equipped with two Airbus H130-T2 helicopters, costing $799 per person for half-hour flights over remote natural landscapes.
Notably, the yacht, built in 2019, features a Basque design by Oliver Design, a Getxo-based company responsible for its architectural project. Although its maiden voyage was between Istanbul and Venice, it was constructed from the outset to navigate the icy waters of the Arctic and Antarctic, thanks to its reinforced hull designed to withstand storms, extreme temperatures, and ice. It has a cruising speed of 17 knots and weighs 17,085 tons.
Access to this six-star superyacht comes at a premium, with prices ranging from 20,000 to 40,000 euros per cabin, depending on the itinerary. Beyond personalized butler service, guests can enjoy amenities such as cinema rooms, two swimming pools, and an expansive 550-square-meter spa. The culinary offerings include ten fine-dining restaurants serving French, Italian, and Asian cuisine, complemented by a bar stocking around a hundred different whiskies.
The 'Scenic Eclipse', which arrived from Avilés, will now depart for Pasajes at 22:00 hours. Its passengers, predominantly American, began a 12-day journey in Lisbon on Tuesday, concluding in Dublin, with prior visits to Vigo, Ferrol, Bordeaux, Concarneau, and Hugh Town. The ship, equipped with advanced technology and accommodating 188 crew members, previously visited Bilbao on June 16, 2025, drawing admiration then, as it does this Saturday.
