Getxo Rugby is now officially a División de Honor Élite team following an immaculate season where they have won every match. The Biscay-based club clinched their promotion by defeating Alcalá 22-13 in the playoff final played at Fadura.
Led by Kemen Goitiandia, the team faced a tougher challenge than expected, particularly in the first half, where the Madrid-based opponent established a 3-13 lead. However, the home team mounted a comeback, reducing the deficit before halftime (10-13) by capitalizing on two temporary sin-bins for Alcalá.
After the break, Getxo surged ahead. Marlo Weich scored the second home try, giving his team the lead for the first time in the final. From then on, Goitiandia's squad managed the game effectively and contained Alcalá's attempts to react.
In the final play of the match, Alejo Sotillo scored the decisive try that sealed promotion, followed by Enrique Tobio's conversion, setting the final score at 22-13.
With this promotion, Getxo Rugby concludes a historic season, having won all 24 matches played. The team dominated the first phase standings and the promotion group of the División de Honor B.
Next season, the División de Honor Élite will feature two teams from Biscay: Getxo Rugby and Gernika RT, who narrowly missed promotion after losing the final to Pozuelo.
