Club Deportivo Galdakao is now a División de Honor team. The black and whites had their promotion on track, but the victory of fourth-placed Mungia against Gordexola this Saturday by 2-1 forced them to win their match against Basurto, played yesterday, if they wanted to confirm it. They achieved it in style, dominating with a resounding 1-4 and confirming their return to a category from which they were cruelly relegated last season due to the drag effects from higher leagues involving other Bizkaia teams.
Twenty minutes into the game, Galdakao took the lead with the first goal, followed by two more during the first half, effectively sealing the match. In the final minutes of the second half, Basurto narrowed the gap, but the visitors scored the fourth and decisive goal in injury time, celebrating their promotion on the Iparralde pitch.
With Dinamo de San Juan already confirmed as league champions, the Galdakao team will finish second regardless of the outcome of the two remaining matchdays. The third promotion spot, currently held by Sestao River, is the only one left to be decided, with Mungia and Gatika as other contenders. Galdakao will play against Dinamo next matchday and will be able to celebrate their success at Santa Bárbara in front of their fans, and in the last match, they will visit River's home ground.
After last season's relegation, Galdakao was under pressure to return to División de Honor as soon as possible, and they have achieved it with a campaign in which they have been unbeatable. The black and whites have been in promotion positions every matchday since the league began in September. They won their first nine matches consecutively, and although they experienced a slight dip in the second half of the season when Dinamo de San Juan took over the top spot, they managed to overcome their struggles by regaining consistency in the final stages of the season.
