The town of Galdakao will host a pelota festival on Saturday, September 12th, at the Kurtzea court. The Basque Pelota Selection will play a match as part of their preparation for the World Championship. Local player Gaizka Carregal will face Ekhi Irribarria, and a hand-pelota doubles match will also take place between the pairs Azketa-Bernaola and Lizeaga-Elorz.
The festival holds particular significance as it offers a chance to see the Basque Selection players who will compete in the World Championship. The Basque Pelota Federation of the Basque Country has encouraged residents and pelota fans to support local player Carregal.
Additionally, the Santakurtzetan Bertsolari Festival is scheduled for Sunday, September 13th, in the Kurtzea square. Nerea Ibarzabal, Unai Iturriaga, Alaia Martin, and Julio Soto will perform, with Arkaitz Estiballes serving as the master of ceremonies.
The City Council plans to renovate the Maximo Moreno park, following the pedestrianization of Txomin Egileor street. The goal is to transform it into a community meeting point by updating furniture, green areas, and children's spaces. They anticipate the project will be realized in the coming months, although specific timelines have not been provided.
Furthermore, the Galdakao Empowerment Schools will offer 11 courses from October to May at the Torrezabal Cultural Center and Eperlanda in Aperribai. The registration period will be open from September 2nd to 16th.
The swimming pools at the Urreta sports center and its activity rooms will reopen on September 1st after the summer closure. The new cardio and fitness area is scheduled to open in October. The City Council has used the closure period to enhance the sports center's services.
Lastly, the City Council has awarded the contract to draft the project for a new bridge and roundabout that will connect the Bekea neighborhood with the N-634 road. The company Team Ingenieria y Consultoria SL will be responsible for the project, which is expected to be completed by March 2027.
