The Etxebarri City Council has announced the completion of the cycle path connecting Etxebarri, Basauri, and Bilbao, marking the end of the third and final phase of the municipal Cycling Plan.

The new route will significantly enhance road safety and facilitate connections between the three municipalities. Notably, the section along the riverbank is constructed with naturalizable materials, complying with the requirements of URA (Basque Water Agency) for this protected area. In some parts, approximately 20 meters could not be intervened upon due to their location within the hydraulic channel, where URA has prohibited any action.
As a result of the works, several trees near Parque de Fuenlabrada were felled after technical assessments deemed transplantation unfeasible. The City Council confirms that appropriate new specimens will be planted to replace them now that the section is finished.
With the definitive opening of the cycle path, the Etxebarri City Council considers this project closed, as it strengthens sustainable mobility, reduces motorized traffic and pollutant emissions, and offers residents and visitors a safer, more accessible, and environmentally friendly mode of transport.
