The Euskadiko Orkestra will present its 2025-2026 symphonic season program in the coming days, featuring Russian pianist Nikolai Lugansky as the main guest to perform works by Rakhmaninov and Bartok.

The Euskadiko Orkestra will offer the next program of its 2025-2026 symphonic season, titled Rakhmaninov / Bartok. These concerts will take place in the usual four capitals: on April 9 and 10 at the Kursaal Auditorium in Donostia, on April 13 at the Jesús Guridi Conservatory in Gasteiz, on April 14 at the Baluarte Auditorium in Iruñea, and on April 15 at the Euskalduna Palace in Bilbao. Tickets are now on sale, except for the Gasteiz concert, starting from 10 euros on the euskadikoorkestra.eus website and at the auditoriums' box offices and websites.
The central focus of this program is the participation of Russian pianist Nikolai Lugansky, who will perform Sergei Rakhmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 3. Lugansky and Rakhmaninov form an internationally acclaimed duo, and this will be the Russian pianist's fourth visit with the Euskadiko Orkestra. Rakhmaninov composed this work in 1909 with the aim of showcasing his virtuosity, and it is known as one of the most challenging in the piano repertoire.
In the first part of the concert, the fascinating impressionism of the symphonic poem The Enchanted Lake by Anatoli Liadov, a master from the generation before Rakhmaninov, will be heard. In the second part, the Euskadiko Orkestra will perform Bela Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra. Bartok composed this work in 1943 in the USA, and Serge Koussevitzky described it as the best work written in the last quarter century.
This new program will be conducted by the Slovakian Juraj Valcuhak, who is the principal conductor of the Houston Symphony and the Yomiuri Symphony Orchestra of Tokyo. This will be Valcuhak's third visit to Euskadi. All concerts will begin at 7:30 PM.
