Iñigo Eslava and Gonzalo Galbete secured their first win this Saturday in the Pala Summer League, organized by Basquemotion, at the Txikito de Gallarta fronton, in front of over 300 spectators who enjoyed a spectacular atmosphere.
The Navarrese pair overcame Jagoba Madariaga and Javier Insausti in a high-tension encounter. All four players set a very high pace for the game, with the two left-handed backcourt players being prominent in the opening rallies. The red team was leading 14-10, but an Insausti service fault gave the initiative to their rivals, who turned the game around with a run that led them to a final score of 14-15.
The comeback was a psychological blow to the player from Armintza and the Navarrese player, who did not give up. However, Eslava and Galbete attacked Insausti again, thereby neutralizing Madariaga.
The comeback was a significant psychological blow to the player from Armintza and the Navarrese player, who did not give up. Nevertheless, Eslava and Galbete once again punished Insausti, thereby neutralizing Madariaga. They sealed the match at 6-15. Iñigo and Gonzalo have taken the first step.
The crowd gave the players a standing ovation.
Group 1 consists of Eslava-Galbete, Madariaga-Insausti, Fusto-Skufca, and Imanol-Baeza. Group 2, meanwhile, is made up of Gaubeka-Del Río, Maldonado-Alkorta, Zubiri-Ibai Pérez, and Mikel Sanz-Gordon.
In any case, Basquemotion has substitutes of the caliber of Ion Olazabal, Alejandro Murcia, or Berrogui. Thus, the player from Bilbao mixes with Baeza, a friend and teammate.
The Summer League will feature seven regular season matches between June and July, while the semifinals and final are scheduled for September 7 and 14, respectively, at a venue yet to be confirmed. After Gallarta, Basquemotion will visit Lezama (June 20), Sestao (June 29), Iruñea (July 6), Ispaster (July 11), Plentzia (July 17), and Azpeitia (July 25).
The new firm aims to be a "benchmark" with a broad, experienced, and high-value roster of players. "The format will be similar to the festival we held at the Club Deportivo in Bilbao – on March 28 – where we combined music, a speaker, and the best pala," reflect the organizers, a firm that thanks the support received from various federative entities to carry out a league that will serve as the best preparation for the World Championship in Argentina in October.
Furthermore, Basquemotion assures that they plan to organize a ProAm championship once the World Championship concludes in October. January would be the turn for the Individual championship, while they later plan to offer a Doubles Championship.
