The knife attack occurred during a fight between two groups of youths in a public place early in the morning.
Alerted by residents, several units of the Ertzaintza (Basque Police) arrived at the scene. Officers requested an ambulance from Osakidetza (Basque Health Service) to treat the injured person. After taking statements from witnesses, they identified the alleged assailant, who was arrested on charges of aggravated assault with a bladed weapon and taken to the central police station in Ibarrekolanda.
Residents of Ribera de Deusto have been suffering the consequences of the occupation of abandoned pavilions in the area for years. The planned demolition of several buildings to advance urban development has been halted due to the presence of dozens of homeless individuals residing within them.
