The Beurko institute in Barakaldo wishes to continue offering its artistic baccalaureate program, a unique track in the municipality since its inception in 2000.

Educational authorities have informed the school that the first-level offering for the next academic year has been denied due to 'current low enrollment.' The center's representatives suggest this situation might be temporary or context-specific, noting that enrollment typically increases during the regular registration period.
Currently, the program serves 20 students across two academic years, with 7 interested students registered for the upcoming year. The art department comprises six teachers. The institute attributes the low pre-enrollment numbers to 'limited dissemination of the offering and lack of information,' advocating for a broader perspective. They also criticize the decision's communication as being 'without sufficient advance notice, without providing an opportunity to react.'

"It is fundamental to maintain this Baccalaureate in the public network so that all students have equal access. We cannot forget the work done over these years, the teaching positions, the developed infrastructures, and the specific resources acquired. Losing all this would represent a significant setback."

The center's management
The institute's management has conveyed its position to the Basque Government, hoping for a reconsideration of the decision. They emphasize the importance of maintaining this baccalaureate within the public education system to ensure equal access for all students, highlighting the accumulated work, teaching staff, infrastructure, and resources that would be lost, representing a significant setback.
