At an event held this morning at the Bilbao Exhibition Center, the Bizkaia Provincial Council acknowledged the often-unseen work of companies that are taking their first steps and strengthening the Basque productive fabric. This is the spirit of the ON Bizkaia Enpresa sariak Awards, which highlighted six notable initiatives in areas such as innovation, internationalization, digital transition, green transition, and entrepreneurship.
Among those awarded, the provincial entity recognized a hospitality sector company, founded by the current president of Athletic before taking office, through his investment vehicle. This company positions itself as a competitor to platforms like Booking or Airbnb. The company received the award for the Trajectory of a Start up. Founded in 2019, it has launched the “largest alternative to traditional hotels in Europe,” as emphasized by the Council. To achieve this, they propose a new operational model that merges hotels and vacation rentals, based on customer experience and the use of proprietary technology.
Among the other awardees, the Project Creation award went to a company established in 2022 in Gordexola, specializing in the remanufacturing of container handlers, heavy-duty forklifts, and internal logistics solutions powered by alternative energies. The Innovation and Growth Project recognition was given to a company that has promoted an initiative focused on internalizing the tempering process at its Ortuella plant, which involved the incorporation of advanced 4.0 machinery.
The ON Award for Internationalization was presented to a Mungia-based company specializing in the design and manufacture of electrical power supply and data transmission solutions for industrial mobile equipment. The award for the Digital Transition initiative, meanwhile, went to a company present in 60 countries and a leader in the design, manufacture, and commercialization of cardan drive shafts for agricultural machinery.
The ON Award for the Green Transition Project was given to a company that, in collaboration with Petronor and Tecnalia, launched the H2 Integra project, focused on using green hydrogen as an energy source for data centers.
