Thousands gathered in the Basque capital on Friday night to enjoy an unprecedented artistic display, marking the conclusion of Iberdrola's 125th-anniversary celebrations. A total of 1,500 drones took off from near the Guggenheim Museum to light up the Bilbao sky, flying around the Iberdrola Tower and projecting beams of light accompanied by music.
The drones performed a delta-wing formation, leaving trails, before forming the phrase 'Bilbao, 1901', the company's founding year. Subsequently, they depicted company emblems with lights, including its three-color logo, a hydroelectric power plant, a map of Spain with its rivers and water flows, the world map, global cities where the company has a presence, wind turbines, and electric cars.
In the final part of the 20-minute show, the drones composed the phrase '125. argi-urte. 125 años luz' (125 light-years. 125 light years). As a farewell, they projected the silhouette of the city of Bilbao with its most emblematic monuments, to the applause of the attendees.
Spectators positioned themselves on both banks of the river and around Plaza Euskadi. Families, friends, the elderly, and students fresh from a collective graduation enjoyed the images projected onto the night sky of Bilbao.
Drone shows are currently in vogue and have revolutionized nocturnal light displays, as seen in the tribute to Gaudí held last Wednesday at the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona during the visit of Pope Leo XIV. This Friday night, it was Bilbao's turn, spectacularly concluding the afternoon and evening of festivities in the city center for the anniversary of the electric company headquartered in the Biscayan capital.
