With the arrival of the summer period, the Bilbao City Council is activating one of its most widespread municipal programs in the neighborhoods. From this Tuesday until September 1st, the pre-registration period will be open to access the municipal courses and workshops for the 2026-2027 academic year, an offer that totals 324 activities and 5,434 places aimed at adults registered in the city.
The program, which will take place in municipal centers across the eight districts, once again combines proposals linked to culture, sports, health promotion, and equality. This is a consolidated offering within the municipal agenda that attracts thousands of participants each year and aims to provide training and leisure alternatives throughout the course.
Of the total planned activities, 110 correspond to leisure and sports, 104 to health programs for seniors, 85 to cultural workshops, and 25 to equality initiatives. In total, the offer reaches 5,434 places, with 1,995 allocated to sports activities, 1,904 to health programs, 1,200 to cultural workshops, and 335 to equality courses.
Interested individuals can formalize their application online. Culture, equality, and health courses will be managed through the municipal website, while sports activities will be handled by Bilbao Kirolak, which will also maintain in-person and telephone channels for processing.
The allocation of places will once again be done through a lottery. On September 3rd, the procedure to determine the registration order of applicants will take place. The assigned appointment can be consulted from the 8th via the municipal website, at municipal centers, or through the City Council's telephone assistance service. For sports activities, places will be directly allocated based on the pre-registration made.
The program for the upcoming academic year maintains a wide range of physical activities, with proposals ranging from maintenance gymnastics, yoga, and stretching to various dance styles. It also includes advanced courses in disciplines such as Tai Chi, Chi-kung, or specific dance specialties, which require prior experience.
In the cultural sphere, the offering continues to focus on disciplines related to crafts, plastic arts, and visual arts. Furniture restoration, bookbinding, ceramics, photography, painting, sculpture, and floral design are among the scheduled specialties. A new addition for the upcoming academic year is a printmaking workshop, while proposals linked to the circular economy and the recovery of furniture and materials will continue.
Furthermore, several cultural workshops will be taught in Basque. These include digital photography, watercolor, Sumi-E, and urban sketching activities.
Another highlighted block is health for seniors. The 104 scheduled workshops are aimed at promoting active lifestyles and combating sedentary behavior among the older population. These activities, particularly for those over 70, are free, and if all available places are filled, applicants will be placed on a waiting list.
The offering is completed with 25 courses from the equality area focused on women's training and participation. Planned content includes workshops on computing, social media, creative writing, art therapy, body expression, or prevention of gender-based violence from the perspective of healthy relationships and feminist self-defense.
The Bilbao City Council anticipates that all activities will commence in October. Once the ordinary registration process concludes, any remaining vacant places can be filled subsequently without needing to participate in the initial pre-registration phase.
