The Barakaldo City Council is working to stabilize the slope next to the main access road to El Regato, following a recent landslip.

The Barakaldo City Council began work last week to stabilize the slope adjacent to the road that serves as the main access to El Regato. The municipal government has decided to invest 105,000 euros in these tasks, necessitated by a landslip that occurred approximately a month ago. These actions aim to ensure the safety of the road and vehicle transit.
The landslip occurred on April 16th. Immediately, material that had encroached onto the roadway was removed, and one lane was closed. A subsequent technical inspection revealed cracks in two areas near the road. Erosion, caused by time, weather conditions, and vegetation roots, made urgent intervention necessary.
Jon Andoni Uria, councilor for Works and Services at the Barakaldo City Council, stated that "these cracks posed a real risk of further large block detachments, making it important to act quickly." In response, slope containment work has been initiated.
The project involves installing a triple-twist geogrid, anchored to the ground with 32-millimeter diameter active bars and secured by 12-millimeter steel cables. This geogrid will not only stabilize the slope but also enhance road safety against future landslides. Additionally, unstable material has been removed from the hillside, and the area is being cleared to complete the repairs.
