The Bilbao City Council has honored four individuals for their dedication and commitment to improving the quality of life for seniors, as part of the International Day of Older Persons.

The Bilbao City Council commemorated International Day of Older Persons yesterday, October 1st, by recognizing the work of four individuals distinguished for their careers and commitment to improving quality of life. This year's honorees were Josune Vila, Pilar Osses, María Dolores Adrien, and Urbano Parra.
The awards ceremony took place during the sixth edition of the "Bilbao con las Personas Mayores" Gala, held at the Teatro Campos. The event, organized with the collaboration of Telebilbao and Radio Nervión, featured performances by Mago Tor and the musical group Bilbao Mapa Mundi.
In the morning, the City Council hosted a reception for Senior Associations of the City, followed by the Gala in the afternoon at the Teatro Campos. The Mayor of Bilbao, Juan Mari Aburto, presided over the event, which gathered over 700 senior citizens, along with a representation of council members and institutional officials.
The Mayor highlighted the "generosity and altruism" of the awardees, acknowledging their work "through active participation and involvement with others. From community activities and energizing groups, to accompanying those who require support. Caring, accompanying, integrating, building community… contributing to personal and collective growth, making the lives of others better; voluntarily and with their personal effort, they have worked, in capital letters, to improve our society. Congratulations".
These annual recognitions honor the careers of the chosen individuals, as well as their commitment to coexistence and improving the quality of life in the Vizcayan capital and its neighborhoods, contributing to making Bilbao a more friendly place to live.
These awards are part of the Municipal Plan "Bilbao, a senior-friendly city," aimed at recognizing the dedication and commitment of individuals and groups who work to make the City and its neighborhoods a more welcoming place.
Currently, following the completion of the III Municipal Plan "Bilbao a senior-friendly city. 2020-2024", steps have been initiated for the future IV Plan. A new Motor Team has been formed, comprising six members from the previous plan and six new additions.
