The Urretxu Town Council approved the technical project and plans for the AldiriBi sports complex in yesterday's plenary session, with votes in favor from the PNV and PSE-EE, and an abstention from EH Bildu.

The sports complex will be built on a 5,000 square meter plot currently occupied by the playground of the Urretxu-Zumarraga ikastola (school). The four-story building will feature a covered court, a new entrance to the swimming pool, and will house four multi-purpose rooms, changing rooms, a storage area, and an elevator. A park of 3,700 square meters will also be created. The construction is expected to take approximately two years.
The project has an estimated budget of 6,228,000 euros. Once published on the contracting platform next week, companies will have 26 days to submit their bids. Councilor Igor Zubillaga stated that the economic offer has not been prioritized.

"It is strategic, as it enhances the sports offering and improves the swimming pools."

Alex Gonzalez · PSE-EE Councilor
Jon Altolagirre, from EH Bildu, criticized the project's delays and its financing, particularly the lack of European aid and the potential impact on the municipal investment capacity. He also called for the creation of a broader and more ambitious sports ecosystem in collaboration with Zumarraga.
Mayor Jon Luqui defended the project's origin and necessity, recalling meetings with the school and local clubs. He explained that the initiative resolves the swimming pool issue and enables the creation of the park, emphasizing it is more than just a sports complex. He also highlighted the sports infrastructure in Urretxu and Zumarraga and the support provided to sports clubs.
The mayor indicated that the project was delayed to pursue European funding, but they expect to start construction this year. Altolagirre, however, pointed out that the lack of a shared access card between the Urretxu and Zumarraga sports facilities calls into question the existence of a sports ecosystem.
