The second edition of the rural sports challenge between the towns of Goierri was held in Lazkaomendi, continuing the tradition started last year. This year, eight teams participated, an increase from last year's seven, and the competition was fierce in front of a large audience.
In the initial qualifying rounds, seven teams competed in three heats. First were Beasain and Idiazabal, followed by the young teams from Lazkaomendi, Ataun, and Gabiria, and finally Urretxu-Zumarraga and Segura-Zerain. The events included stake driving, running, bale carrying, rope climbing, log cutting (trontza), weight carrying (txingas), anvil striking (ingudea), and wood chopping (aizkora).
Urretxu-Zumarraga and Beasain qualified for the final, where they faced the veterans of Lazkaomendi. In the final, stone drilling was added to the previous eight tasks. The Urretxu-Zumarraga team took the lead from the start and secured victory with a time of 16 minutes and 37 seconds. The veterans of Lazkaomendi finished second (17:26), and Beasain came in third (18:28).
“"Both in terms of participants and spectators, it has been a crowded festival, and the atmosphere has been excellent thanks to both the athletes and the fans."
