Urola Sports Club will officially begin its 2026-2027 season this coming Saturday with the Zumarraga-Urretxu tournament and the customary floral offering. The club will boast 20 federated teams, approximately 490 footballers, and 67 coaches for the new campaign.
On the same Saturday, September 5th, the Zumarraga-Urretxu tournament will take place at Argixaon. At 13:00, the club will present a floral offering to the Virgen de Antxo at the Antxo sanctuary, attended by players from the two senior teams, board members, and representatives from the Zumarraga City Council.
The tournament's opening match is scheduled for 15:30, featuring the women's teams, where Urolak will compete against Debagoiena Bailara. Following this, at 17:30, it will be the men's turn, with Urolak facing Ilintxa.
Additionally, membership cards will be distributed at Zumarraga's Euskadi Square on Saturday and the 12th, between 10:30 and 13:00, aiming to strengthen the club's unified image and team spirit.
Regarding the senior teams, the men's Honor Regional Division team will start their 2026-2027 season on September 13th in Ondartza, playing against Hondarribia. Valen Tena will lead this team, assisted by Markel Babarro, Julio Pastrian, and Aitor Moreno. The women's team will commence competition a week later in Elgoibar, coached by Aitor Irizar, Juanlu Elizondo, and Mikel Irizar.
Both senior teams began their training in August, and the rest of the club's teams are already active. In total, there will be 14 men's and six women's federated teams, in addition to the Football School, comprising around 490 players and 67 coaches.
Looking ahead to the new season, the club's board aims to consolidate the current project and achieve further progress, both in sports and management. Key challenges include enhancing the competitiveness of the women's team and focusing on homegrown players for the men's team.
Measures to improve daily management will be strengthened, such as the Joko OK protocol and the Urola-Real methodology. In the economic sphere, expenditure control and responsible resource management will be maintained, alongside efforts to attract new sponsors.
From this season onwards, players from the U12 teams and above will be required to wear the official club street attire for matches, reinforcing a unified image and team identity. Social media presence will be enhanced, promoting the senior teams as club references and increasing the use of Basque language in communication and the club's image.
The objective is clear: to continue being a football club that brings the ball and values onto the field in Basque. The board emphasizes the necessity of collaboration among all club members and expresses gratitude for the commitment of members, families, players, coaches, volunteers, and sponsors.
