Segura's San Juan festivities kick off this Friday afternoon with the descent of the Zopa pertza and a proclamation by Segura Irratia, celebrating its 70th anniversary.

Starting this Friday, June 25th, Segura will celebrate its main patron saint's festivities. This year, the 'txosna' area, where food and drink stalls are located, will be set up in the old fronton, a change from previous years. The celebration will officially commence at 7:00 PM with the descent of the Zopa pertza from the town square balcony, followed by the proclamation. This year, the honor of reading the proclamation goes to the team at Segura Irratia, as the radio station marks its 70th anniversary.
The program, organized in collaboration with the festival and 'txosna' committees, includes traditional events. The costume day will be the first event, with members of the local retirement association serving as judges. On June 21st, the Children's Day will be celebrated with a cross-country run and games, organized by 6th-grade students. The traditional San Juan bonfire and a popular 'akelarre' (witch's coven) will take place on June 23rd.
Young people have taken charge of organizing the new 'txosna' area in the old fronton, which will host music concerts almost daily. Additionally, on Saturday, June 20th, a town meal will be held for the first time as part of the 'Kuadrillen Eguna' (Day of the Squads), with around 250 people already registered. Batukada, elektrotxaranga, and charangas will also liven up the atmosphere at midday and in the afternoon.
Local musicians will also have their moment. On June 23rd, the group Balantza will perform in the evening, and on the final day of the festivities, Arriet Elortza and Iñaki Labaka will play together on drums. Two events that were successful last year will be repeated: the bertsolari (improvised poetry singers) session on San Juan day, featuring Maddalen Arzallus and Sebastian Lizaso, and the town dinner followed by bingo to conclude the festivities.
Segura Irratia is celebrating its 70 years of broadcasting, having first aired in 1956. Olatz Etxeberria, a radio employee, emphasizes that the station is "a reflection of the town," uniting generations and disseminating information while adapting to new technologies. The radio team, collaborators, and former employees will commemorate the station's history during the proclamation.
