Local commerce is a hallmark of Ordizia, and for this reason, the City Council has once again launched the Ordizia Zabalik aid program, aiming to boost local trade and economic activity within the municipality. This year, it will allocate 42,000 euros to support the recovery of vacant commercial spaces, facilitate generational succession, and foster new entrepreneurial projects.
«The objective is to recover empty commercial premises through entrepreneurs and to address generational succession in small businesses. It is gratifying to see that, year after year, new entrepreneurial projects emerge in the municipality», highlighted deputy mayor Maitane Álvarez.
This marks the twelfth edition of the aid program. In recent years, over 70 entrepreneurs have joined the program, which boasts a 75% continuity rate. Although it is a biannual program, with annual calls, several establishments that received support in previous years will continue to be part of it this year, including Serendipity Moda, TK Pilates, Garage Project, MAE Estética, Goxo-Goxo Cafetería, IMZ Moda, and Kiska Taberna. Furthermore, they anticipate around 15 new establishments will join. The deadline for submitting applications is June 30th.
The financial aid received by entrepreneurs is intended for rent payments or the purchase of premises. For rent, the City Council will finance 40% of the monthly cost, up to a maximum of 300 euros per month, for a period of up to two years, retroactively from January 2026. Those who opt to purchase a premises may receive aid equivalent to 4% of the cadastral value, with a maximum of 3,000 euros.
Álvarez emphasized that «the commercial density of Ordizia is particularly significant. In a municipality of just over 10,000 inhabitants, we have nearly 200 establishments, and the City Council's goal is to continue strengthening the sector's competitiveness and ensure the continuity of the shops, service companies, and hospitality establishments that form the local economic fabric».
