Adif has informed the Legazpi City Council that the construction of the new train station will begin in 2028, following the completion of the project's drafting phase.

Adif has informed the Legazpi City Council that the construction of the future train station will commence in 2028. The project is currently in the drafting phase, with completion anticipated between August and September 2027, after which the works will be put out to tender.
The mayor of Legazpi, Eric Gálvez, met this week with Antonio Berrios, Adif's Commissioner for Commuter Plans, and Noemí López, Government Sub-delegate in Gipuzkoa, to follow up on the status of this long-awaited infrastructure project.
The original project, initiated by Adif in 2020, included the construction of a new passenger building, an underpass between platforms, new canopies, and the renovation of facilities to ensure universal accessibility. The new access was intended to bring the railway facilities closer to the urban center.
Subsequently, the works were awarded for 3.9 million euros, and preparatory tasks began. However, the significant increase in construction costs post-pandemic made it unfeasible to complete the project as initially planned, necessitating the termination of the contract and a project redesign.
The current new drafting phase will allow for the project to be updated and adapted to current needs, maintaining the goal of providing Legazpi with a modern, accessible station fully integrated into its urban environment.
While the new station project was being developed, other improvements have been made to the railway environment, including the creation of a new access to platform 2 and the elimination of the level crossing between platforms, significantly enhancing user safety.
The mayor has positively assessed the project's progress and thanked both Adif and the Government Sub-delegation for their consistent dialogue regarding this infrastructure, considered a priority for Legazpi.
"The new train station is a very important infrastructure for our municipality. Throughout this term, we have consistently monitored this project because we believe Legazpi deserves a modern, accessible station adapted to current needs. Today, we have a roadmap to continue working towards making this project a reality," stated the mayor.
