The public school is currently celebrating Solidarity Week, and as a culmination, they will host their biennial Solidarity Fair. This market will feature sweets prepared by Olamendi families, including some from countries outside Euskal Herria. A basket filled with seasonal products will be raffled among buyers.
The money collected at the fair will be given to the Paz con Dignidad association, which will then channel the aid to the Al Awda association. The Olamendi educational center has previously demonstrated its support for Palestine, holding a gathering at the beginning of the school year in response to the call from the Gure Haurrak ere Badira initiative.
In addition to fundraising, the associations Auzoak Bizirik, Hotz Legazpi, Lekanazpi, Buskabaso, and Beti Gazte will also collaborate on a clothing drive for local children. The collected clothes will be sorted into lots and distributed to those who request them. The method for requesting clothes will be announced later. The Buskabaso neighborhood association has also created a playroom in the San Ignacio premises, where they are collecting toys and books donated by citizens.
“"One of our lines of work is integration, and as we know, there is a great need in our neighborhoods, increasingly so, there is no need to go elsewhere."
One of the objectives of the fair and Buskabaso's activities is integration. According to an association president, integration is one of their main lines of work, and they have highlighted the growing need in the neighborhoods. There are more associations in Legazpi working in this area, and a proposal for collaboration was made, which was well received by the Olamendi management.
This solidarity fair follows Olamendi's recently celebrated Science Week. The days leading up to the Santikutz festivities were dedicated to science across all primary education cycles, and students had the opportunity to enjoy various activities, most of which took place in the school laboratory. They also received a visit from a Red Cross ambulance, which students were able to explore from the inside.
