The Leintz team –comprising Ane Zuazubiskar, Haizea Arana, Oihana Arana, Larraitz Trojaola, and Olatz Zuazubiskar–, which was considered a strong favorite when the championship began in January, lived up to expectations and won the title in yesterday's final, delivering an "excellent and complete" performance.
From the outset, the organizers and participants aimed for a friendly and close competition, which was reflected in the final. The Leintz team opened with a humorous greeting, and the Urretxu Zumarraga team also had the audience laughing.
Regarding the scored exercises, Haizea Arana and Manex Mantxola performed in the free verse section. Following them, in the 'hamarreko txiki', Ane Zuazubiskar and Mikel Iturriotz took over. There were also unusual exercises, such as each team member –Oihana Arana and Antton Fernandez– being given twelve rhymes to sing three short 'zortziko' verses.
In the 'ofizio' exercise, in 'zortziko txiki', Haizea Arana and Manex Mantxola portrayed two bus passengers. Subsequently, Ane Zuazubiskar and Antton Fernandez immersed themselves in a summer festival atmosphere in the scored verse exercise. In 'koplaka', Haizea Arana, Mikel Iturriotz, and Ane Zuazubiskar depicted the coexistence of flatmates, and they concluded the list of exercises with the 'ganbara' task.
With all these performances, the Leintz team won the final with a score of 21-15. Unai Mendizabal and Igotz Alkorta, members of the Karidadeko benta team, presented a championship cap to each of the winners.
Although a 'berto-poteo' (a social gathering with bertsolaritza) was originally scheduled for midday, it was canceled at the last minute. The organizers had just learned that a teacher from the Oreretako bertsolaritza school had committed a sexist assault, and they called for a gathering to protest the incident before the afternoon session.
