The Zumarraga Town Hall has launched a new ZuEKIN Eskolara voucher campaign, offering 60 euros per child to boost local commerce and ease families' expenses for the new school year.

The Zumarraga Town Hall has initiated a new ZuEKIN Eskolara campaign. Through this initiative, 60 euro vouchers will be mailed to the homes of families with 880 schoolchildren born between 2011 and 2020 and registered in Zumarraga before May 1st. The vouchers can be redeemed between July 1st and October 31st, 2026 at participating establishments.
Among the participating businesses are Mentxu y Yone, Librería Legazpi, Loramendi Kirolak, Urki Liburu Denda, Deportes Apalategui, Roayer Gráficas, Oskarbi Oinetakoak, Onena Ehun, and Óptica Javier Arratibel. The initiative aims to alleviate the financial burden for families preparing for the new school year while simultaneously stimulating consumption in local shops.

"The initiative serves a dual purpose: to facilitate access to necessary back-to-school products and to ensure that this investment directly benefits the local economy."

Mikel Serrano · Mayor
Mayor Mikel Serrano explained that the ZuEKIN Eskolara program is part of the municipal strategy ZumarragarEKIN 2026 for the socioeconomic development of the municipality. The Town Hall is allocating 50,000 euros to this school supply voucher campaign, which constitutes over 60% of the total ZumarragarEKIN 2026 budget.
The mayor recalled that since its launch in 2018, the ZuEKIN Eskolara program has injected nearly 400,000 euros into local commerce, establishing itself as an effective tool from both social and economic perspectives. Accumulated data indicates it is a recognized and valued aid for families, while also generating a direct impact on the activity of participating establishments.
Furthermore, expenditure analysis shows the initiative is meeting its design objective: approximately 90% of the investment is used for acquiring school and sports supplies. By sector, sports account for 49.8% of spending, while bookstores represent 39.9%, demonstrating that the vouchers are primarily used for products related to the start of the school year.

"We encourage both families and businesses to continue embracing this program. Every purchase made in local commerce generates a shared benefit: it helps ease household finances, sustains economic activity, supports employment, and strengthens the vitality of the municipality."
