Azpeitia's bullring hosted an exhibition of bullfighters with cencerros yesterday, adapting from its usual competitive format due to health concerns.

Yesterday afternoon's event at the Azpeitia bullring was not a competition or a league match, but an exhibition. Nevertheless, the dozens of attendees were treated to a spectacular show, comparable to any championship.
This year marked the fourth edition of the event organized by the bullfighting club Kalian Gora in honor of Egoitz Albizuri Iherra. However, a contagious nodular dermatosis affecting the cattle made the usual competition format impossible. Consequently, it was decided to proceed with an exhibition. As the organizers had hoped, the eight best pairs from the Basque Country did not disappoint, delivering a superb performance.
A total of sixteen bullfighters faced bulls from the Albara ranch. Three of them hailed from Azpeitia: Xabier Iturralde, Unai Arellano, and Iñaki Soraluze. The participants were divided into two groups: league pairs and beginners. Among the league pairs were Unai Arellano and Xabier Iturralde (both from Azpeitia), Ander Lizarralde (Villabona, Gipuzkoa) and Roberto Constanza (Orkoien, Navarra), Ander Gallastegi (Durango, Bizkaia) and Anartz Almorza (Bergara, Gipuzkoa), as well as Enaitz Tardio (Tolosa, Gipuzkoa) and Alvaro Cabezon (Funes, Navarra).
In the beginners' category, the pairs included Mikel Caraman and Mikel Albizu (both from Mutriku), Jokin Jauregi (Andoain, Gipuzkoa) and Iñigo Goikoetxea (Tolosa, Gipuzkoa), Iñaki Soraluze (Azpeitia) and Andoni Zumeta (Asteasu, Gipuzkoa), and Ander Martinez (Aretxabaleta, Gipuzkoa) and Eneko Monreal (Beasain, Gipuzkoa).
The pairs performed in three-minute rounds, aiming to place as many cencerros as possible on the bulls' horns. Despite the difficulty of the task, everyone put in a maximum effort to deliver a great show.
Following the exhibition, bulls with bells were released into the arena for attendees aged 16 and over.
