The association 'Against Cancer in Gipuzkoa' has inaugurated its new headquarters today at Pablo Uranga street, number 6, in Arrasate, in the premises formerly occupied by a youth center. Filling a gap in Debagoiena, the association will now have a presence in all regions of Gipuzkoa, with the aim of offering close support to cancer patients and their families. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Katty Nevado, the association's coordinator, Julian Aizpurua, president of DanobatGroupe, and several municipal representatives from towns in Debagoiena, including Maider Morras, the mayor of Arrasate.
The association's coordinator emphasized that cancer is not an individual's disease but a reality that affects the entire society. "Beyond being a physical space, we want to be a company of trust and real support. We know that cancer, like society, is diverse," she stated. The goal is to closely support patients and their families while promoting research to achieve better diagnoses and treatments. Maider Morras added the importance of people suffering from cancer receiving care "from care, understanding, and warmth".
The association highlights that cancer is a complex illness that affects not only patients: "It has an emotional and social impact, and those around them also need support." Considering this, the Debagoiena headquarters will offer comprehensive and free support to patients and their families. Nevado states that the association's goal is "to listen to, help, and be by the side of those who need it." The center will be open in the mornings, from Monday to Friday, and will be staffed by a social worker, a psychologist, and a prevention psychologist.
The association has over 600 volunteers throughout Gipuzkoa, working in four areas: patient support, fundraising initiatives, information dissemination, and promotion of scientific research. "The volunteer network gives greater dimension to all actions," they explained at the inauguration, and they encouraged citizens of Debagoiena to participate and become members.
Furthermore, following the opening, the association has organized several activities for the coming days. Tomorrow, Friday, June 14th, a "Breathing and Movement" workshop will be held for patients at 10:30 AM at Mandara Yoga Eskola. On Monday, June 17th, at 5:00 PM, there will be a talk titled "How to Talk to Children and Adolescents About Cancer," and on Tuesday, June 18th, "Health in Habits," at 5:30 PM; both talks will take place at the headquarters. These activities are aimed at patients, families, and the general public, with the goal of strengthening information, prevention, and support regarding cancer.
