Osakidetza's emergency services have provided 25 assists in Euskadi this Tuesday due to the registered high temperatures, with four cases in Gipuzkoa. All treatments had a mild prognosis.
Among those assisted, aged between 16 and 94 years, eight were treated on-site and discharged. Another 17 individuals required transfer by ambulance to primary care centers and hospitals for follow-up. Additionally, last Saturday, eight more people were assisted for the same reason.
These incidents occurred during the first day with a red alert for extreme temperatures, where the mercury exceeded 43 degrees inland in Gipuzkoa and reached 40 degrees in six other areas. The situation is not expected to change until Thursday, when precipitation is forecast to alleviate the heat. However, intense heat will persist on Monday, with alerts from both Aemet and Euskalmet.
The Department of Health of the Basque Government emphasizes the importance of following the recommendations of the Heat Plan. This plan aims to prevent and reduce the impact of excessive temperatures on health, particularly for vulnerable groups such as children under 4, the elderly, pregnant women, individuals with chronic illnesses, and those engaging in outdoor physical activity.
Therefore, it is advised to avoid going out or exercising during the central hours of the day and to drink water frequently to stay hydrated. This marks the first heatwave of the summer and the second of the year, following the one in May.
