The Gipuzkoa Basket club marks its 25th anniversary this year, since its founding in San Sebastián. The team has had a long and varied basketball journey, and from next season will continue under the new name Askatuak Gipuzkoa.

The Gipuzkoa Basket club celebrates its 25th anniversary today, having been founded in San Sebastián a quarter of a century ago. This initiative, promoted by sports representative Miguel Santos and public institutions from Gipuzkoa, aimed to place the territory on the national basketball map.
The team has had a long journey, with various names and sponsorships. It began its career in the Second LEB division and, after some breaks, returned to the same category in the 2004-2005 season. Shortly thereafter, in 2005-2006, they became champions of the First LEB and were promoted to the top ACB league for the first time, although they were relegated the following season.
In the 2007-2008 season, they managed to return to the ACB, where they remained for an extended period, despite a few relegations and promotions. Their best result was achieved in the 2011-2012 campaign, finishing the regular league in fifth place. Finally, in the 2020-2021 season, they were relegated to the LEB Oro, the second Spanish tier, where they have played the last five seasons.
The club has highlighted that Gipuzkoa Basket has managed "to become a benchmark for Gipuzkoan basketball" with "effort, enthusiasm, and the support of thousands of people". "They have been 25 years of great moments", they stated, recalling promotions, unforgettable matches, and the fan base.
The organization has thanked everyone involved: players, coaches, staff, sponsors, institutions, volunteers, and especially subscribers and fans. They recalled that, starting next season, the Askatuak and Gipuzkoa Basket basketball clubs are joining forces, and the club's new name will be Askatuak Gipuzkoa.
