The Gipuzkoa Basket team has suffered another home defeat against Oviedo (75-83), severely complicating their aspirations for promotion to the ACB. Following Friday's loss, the Donostia-based team was unable to secure a victory this Sunday and is now compelled to win the two upcoming games in Asturias this week to maintain any chance of advancing in the series.
The start of the match was not favorable for the home team. Oviedo struck the first blow with a 13-25 partial score. Although the Gipuzkoan team improved their performance in the following ten minutes, it was not enough to prevent Alimerka Oviedo from extending their lead before the long halftime break (24-27).
Despite managing to reduce the deficit in the third quarter (22-17) and the final one (16-14), it was not sufficient for Gipuzkoa Basket to turn the score around. The final result was 75-83.
“"We haven't been at the level required to secure the victory. I just want to say that we deserve a bit more respect and that from tomorrow we will work hard to achieve victory in Oviedo."
The assistant coach of the Donostia team, Yon González, acknowledged that Oviedo had been the superior team in both games. "We haven't been at the level required to secure the victory. I just want to say that we deserve a bit more respect and that from tomorrow we will work hard to achieve victory in Oviedo," he stated.
The Gipuzkoan team will play against Alimerka Oviedo again this Friday starting at 20:00, this time on the Asturian team's court.
