The Gipuzkoa General Archive in Tolosa will be open for visits this Thursday and Friday as part of International Archives Week, featuring free guided tours.

The Department of Culture of the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council will open its historical archives to the public. Visitors will have the opportunity to gain an inside look at the daily work of the Gipuzkoa General Archive, located on San Francisco promenade in Tolosa.
Guided tours will take place on Thursday and Friday, with a total of six sessions. Groups will be limited to a minimum of five and a maximum of fifteen people, with tours offered in both Basque and Spanish. There will be three tours in Spanish and three in Basque, each lasting approximately an hour and a half. Specifically, on Thursday, there will be four tours: at 10:00 AM (Spanish), 12:00 PM (Basque), 4:00 PM (Spanish), and 5:30 PM (Basque). On Friday, tours will be at 10:00 AM (Basque) and 12:00 PM (Spanish).
These visits will provide insight into the daily work and functioning of the archives, allowing access to areas usually closed to the public, such as documentary deposits, workrooms, and restoration laboratories.
Visitors will be able to view original historical documents from the 15th to the 20th centuries and gain a different perspective, as these documentary archives are spaces of memory, knowledge, rights, and public service. Any citizen can request to consult documents stored there, regardless of the topic, or learn about the history of their surname, their home, a piece of land, an ancestor's will, or the recognition of natural children belonging to the Notarial District of Tolosa.
To participate, it is necessary to reserve a free spot. This can be done by calling 943 41 52 62 between 8:30 AM and 2:30 PM, by sending an email to agg-gao@gipuzkoa.eus, or through the registration form.
