Kanpanzar Arrasate hosted league champions Elorrio, and as anticipated, the strongest team from the qualification phase prevailed. The team from Bizkaia won with a score of 18-35, meaning that in the return match, to be played next weekend in San Roke, the Arrasate team will need to overturn the score to remain in the promotion phase.
The match became challenging for Kanpanzar Arrasate almost immediately, as Elorrio took a 0-7 lead in the first minute. Fortunately, by the 10th minute, the home team's players had reversed the score, thanks to a couple of balls sent between the posts and a try, making it 10-7.
The contest was intense during the first 40 minutes. Elorrio again took the lead with a second try, but the home team's response came quickly with another penalty kick. It seemed both teams would go into halftime with a 13-14 score, but in the final moments of the first half, Elorrio scored another try, leaving the score at 13-21 at the break.
In the second half, the visitors aimed to maintain and extend their lead, scoring a fourth try to make it 13-28. With seven minutes remaining in regular time, a try sparked hope among the fans (18-28), but Elorrio's late try set the final score at 18-35, making the playoff difficult for Kanpanzar Arrasate.
Meanwhile, the women's team of Arrasate Rugby Taldea finished the qualification phase in second place, after winning 20-29 in Fadura. The Geurea RT team, formed with Elorrio and Urgozo, achieved nine victories in the 18 rounds played, accumulating a total of 44 points. The final phase of the league will begin next week, with single-match eliminations, starting with the quarterfinals.
