Pedro Carreto, a resident of Durango, has founded the new association 'Durangoko katulagunak' with the goal of improving the lives of the town's stray and abandoned cats. The organization will manage nine colonies, comprising approximately fifty felines, and aims to guarantee their proper feeding and well-being.
A key objective for the association is to support feeders and provide them with resources from the City Council. Furthermore, they plan to implement municipal protocols, such as the CER method (Capture, Sterilize, and Return), to control uncontrolled litters and return the cats to their environment.
“"The feeders are there every day, they detect if there are new litters or if there are sick cats."
Carreto emphasizes that human food is not suitable for cats and can cause health problems and unsanitary conditions. Therefore, the association provides specific cat food and wet food, and requests public cooperation for proper feeding, urging people to contact them before feeding the animals.
Another aim is to collaborate with other entities in Bizkaia and promote adoptions. Carreto calls on citizens to properly care for these animals and to contact the association or municipal police in case of any incident, ensuring their welfare.
