Urnieta Town Hall Condemns Graffiti at Azkorte Hermitage

The Urnieta Town Hall, with representatives from EAJ-PNV, EH Bildu, and PSE-EE, has approved an institutional declaration to condemn the graffiti found at the Azkorte hermitage, labeling it an attack on coexistence.

Through this document, the municipal corporation expresses its rejection of the graffiti carried out at the Azkorte hermitage on the night of Saturday to Sunday. The graffiti alluded to various political groups, unions, and political representatives.

Through this declaration, the Town Hall states that the “reprehensible and unacceptable” threats that have occurred “have no place and are totally against the coexistence of Urnieta”. Furthermore, it reaffirms its commitment to a “plural, inclusive, and respectful Urnieta, where coexistence among different people is a fundamental pillar”. Therefore, “no form of intimidation and targeting can be normalized”. The consistory expresses its solidarity and support for the threatened union and political parties, as well as their representatives.
The Azkorte hermitage is a heritage asset of special value for the municipality and highly valued by its citizens. The Town Hall has already given the order to repaint the walls and restore the hermitage to its previous state, while considering it “essential” to publicly condemn this type of behavior to prevent it from recurring.
