The Mayor of Errenteria has positively assessed the approval of the Royal Decree on the Real Estate Cadastre and the Property Tax (IBI). This new measure includes the category of Real Estate with Special Characteristics (BICE), enabling strategic infrastructures such as the Port of Pasaia or Hondarribia Airport to «contribute more equitably to local treasuries».
This decision, made two weeks ago by the General Assemblies of Gipuzkoa, signifies, in the words of Aizpea Otaegi, «the long-awaited achievement of fiscal justice that already existed elsewhere».
The mayor recalls that «Gipuzkoa was an exception until now, as this fiscal instrument is already applied in other territories to compensate municipalities hosting infrastructures with special characteristics, such as ports, power plants, or major transport infrastructures».
