The Town Square of Errenteria experienced an unparalleled festive atmosphere on Sunday, thanks to the 16th edition of the Muxiko Eguna organized by the Beti Prest group. With favorable weather, around a hundred people gathered to dance and bring the season to a perfect close.
Although this initiative began twenty years ago, this year marked its 16th edition, aiming to bring the tradition from the French Basque Country to Errenteria. To the sound of twelve bell tolls from the church, the dulzaina players and drummers of Errenteria filled the square with lively rhythms, quickly encouraging attendees to join the dance, forming circles and holding hands.
The group Alaken Taldea also participated, performing the Larrain Dantza. Afterwards, to combat the high temperatures, participants enjoyed a pintxo, recovering their energy and having the opportunity to advocate for the value of dancing together.
“"For us, this day is very important. We believe we are doing something interesting to keep a part of our culture alive."
Xabier Obeso, a member of Beti Prest, highlighted the significance of this event for cultural survival. While they intend to continue next year, he reminded that "succession will be fundamental" to ensure the Muxiko Eguna's continuity.
