Musikene, the Higher Music Center of the Basque Country, will commemorate its 25th anniversary during the 2026-27 academic year with a special program reflecting the diversity of its academic and artistic project. The event will feature approximately twenty activities.
Concerts, Basque musical heritage, research, mediation, and inclusion will be part of the celebration, involving students, faculty, alumni, institutions, international artists, and music professionals.
Highlights include the recovery of the complete version of Las golondrinas by José María Usandizaga at the Kursaal Auditorium; a concert by the Musikene Symphony Orchestra conducted by Carlos Kalmar at the Euskalduna Palace in Bilbao; a Big Band concert honoring Basque visual artists; an international residency with composer Hans Abrahamsen; and the International Conference on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in collaboration with the European Association of Conservatories.
Additionally, the Congress on Basque Music Research will take place. The 25th-anniversary program will also include concerts and activities related to classical and jazz performance, traditional Basque music, research, and mediation, alongside meetings, conferences, and publications. These events will be held in collaboration with numerous cultural and musical entities, professional conservatories, and music schools.
