The mobile unit Kapsula Kuantikoa begins its tour across Euskadi to bring quantum physics and technologies closer to citizens in 147 locations.

The Kapsula Kuantikoa itinerant program has launched today in Donostia, aiming to bring quantum physics and technologies closer to citizens. This initiative from the Department of Science, Universities, and Innovation will travel across Euskadi for the next nine months, visiting 147 locations with an immersive, interactive proposal accessible to all ages and backgrounds.
Juan Ignacio Pérez Iglesias, the Minister of Science, Universities, and Innovation, emphasized during the inauguration that “the scientific development of a society must be accompanied by a certain level of understanding of its most basic postulates, as well as its technological advances and possibilities.” He also highlighted the initiative's itinerant nature, which allows scientific culture to reach enclaves and social sectors not typically covered by standard outreach activities.
Quantum physics is an increasingly present reality in our daily lives, underpinning technologies like lasers and positioning systems. Euskadi has made significant strides in this field through the Basque Quantum strategy and boasts a reference infrastructure in Donostia: the IBM Quantum System Two, the first operational system of its kind in Europe.
The mobile unit will tour municipalities in Gipuzkoa, Bizkaia, and Araba, bringing quantum science closer to people of all ages and profiles. It will combine audiovisual resources, interactive installations, and adapted content to explain in a simple and engaging way what quantum science is, how it has evolved, and the possibilities it opens for the future.
Visitors will be able to explore fundamental principles of quantum physics, learn about key developmental milestones, and discover everyday applications. The experience will also shed light on what it means for Euskadi to have infrastructure like the IBM Quantum System Two and explore the potential of quantum computing in areas such as scientific research, health, materials, energy, and communications.
Kapsula Kuantikoa aims to make scientific outreach accessible to everyone, regardless of age, education, or residence, with special attention to individuals and groups facing greater barriers. Visits will be organized for pre-booked groups (especially for schools and associations) and open sessions for the general public.
The tour began in Donostia, followed by Errenteria and over 50 other municipalities in Gipuzkoa. It will reach Bilbao during the Christmas season and continue through Bizkaia from January onwards. The final months will be spent in Araba, with arrival in Vitoria-Gasteiz in mid-June and concluding in Iruña Oka in early July 2027.
The full schedule, visiting locations, and all program information will be available on the scientific culture agenda Zientzia Klik (zientziaklik.euskadi.eus) and its Instagram account using the hashtag #KapsulaKuantikoa.
