The coordinator of platforms for quality Public Health has denounced the "catastrophic" situation of the Continuous Care Centers (PAC) in Donostialdea. They report that in 2024, doctors were absent during 36.4% of shifts, making the PACs in Donostialdea the "worst-off" in the Basque Country based on these figures.
They have stated that citizen health is being put at risk, citing the example of the Hernani Emergency Service operating without a doctor, the difficulties it creates for accessing services, and the increased burden on hospital emergency rooms.
This is not the first time such a gathering has occurred. Two months ago, on April 21st, they held another protest in front of the Donostia Hospital and requested a meeting with the responsible manager, Maite Martinez. Since then, they have received no response. Today's protest marks the third concentration this month, following those held on June 5th in Donostia and June 12th in Errenteria.
They expressed being "tired" of assurances like "we will fix it" from Osakidetza officials. Furthermore, they noted an increase in private insurance contracts, which they claim "breaks equity" in healthcare access and "exacerbates inequalities."
In addition to denouncing the situation at Donostialdea's PACs, they announced that Lasarte-Oria has been added to the list of municipalities where vaccines were administered incorrectly. Specifically, it has come to light that some vaccines were given to residents of Lasarte-Oria without following protocol. Consequently, citizens are demanding "transparency and full information" to prevent recurrence.
