The local associations Goldea and Baratze, in collaboration with the Astigarraga City Council, have organized these events. The organizers emphasize their desire to assert that the care and promotion of the land is “everyone’s responsibility,” and to that end, they have prepared activities for all ages over five days.
The conference will begin on Wednesday, May 13. At 5:30 PM, at the town hall, a meeting will be held to discuss the operation and criteria of the Uma market area. The following day, Thursday, May 14, local taverns will take center stage with a pintxo-poteo starting at 7:00 PM, where peas will be the main ingredient.
San Isidro Day, on May 15, will be the main day of the conference. Early in the morning, trikitilaris Xabi and Joxan will set the mood, followed by a procession and mass. At 11:00 AM, there will be a hamaiketako (mid-morning snack) at the Gure Izarra society. At noon, the highly anticipated horse-pulling exhibition will take place, featuring horses from the Etxetxo, Zornotza, and Garcia Alabak stables, using a 1,000-kilogram stone in 30-minute sessions. Additionally, throughout the day, there will be bertsolaris S. Lizaso and A. Egaña. At the popular lunch held at 2:30 PM, a tribute will be paid to the Taula farmhouse.
On Saturday, May 16, the main activity will be aimed at families. At 5:30 PM, they will depart from Joseba Barandiaran square to the Lizardi farmhouse for a visit focused on floriculture. The closing event of the conference will be Pea Day, on Sunday, May 17. From 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, in Foru Square, a market and various activities related to peas will be held: guided tours, exhibitions, tastings, sales stalls, and pintxos with cider, among others. In addition, there will also be an exhibition of livestock from local farmhouses. Regarding sports, traditional Basque sports will also be featured, with an aizkora (wood-chopping) challenge between Ander Altuna and Jokin Urretabizkaia, and sports competitions for young people have also been organized.
