Yesterday, September 27th, the traditional tribute to seniors took place at the pelota court in Eskoriatza, bringing together approximately 130 jubilarians aged over 65.
The day began with a main mass at San Pedro Church at 11:30 AM. Upon exiting, they were greeted by txistularis, and at 2:00 PM, the celebratory lunch commenced at the pelota court.
After lunch, the oldest attendees were honored: Maria Melgar Vivas, a 95-year-old woman, and Jose Mª Romaratezabala, who turned 94 on the same day. Mayor Edorta Zubizarreta presented Maria with a bouquet of flowers, visibly moving her, while councilor Dorleta Sologaistoa placed a traditional cap on Jose Mª, amidst enthusiastic applause from those present.
Subsequently, members of the retirees' association distributed gifts provided by local shops, bars, banks, businesses, and the City Council.
To conclude, there was a dancing session accompanied by musician Jose Angel Elizondo, which got many people on their feet and enjoying the pleasant atmosphere of the day.
