The Arrasate Blues festival, maintaining its "zero kilometer" identity and the goal of "keeping the streets alive," will fill two locations in Arrasate with blues and other related music on Saturday. The main event will be the Big Band Day, organized in collaboration with the Arrasate Musikal music school. Two bands from Arrasate, one from Gasteiz, and another from Barcelona will perform on stage. All concerts will be free of charge.
In addition to the live music, there will also be presentations of the program and merchandise for the eighth Arrasate Blues festival, which will take place in July.
The 25th anniversary of the Arrasate Musikal Big Band has been the main catalyst for organizing the Big Band Day. The group, led by Zigor Martínez, will celebrate its "fruitful journey" and plans to release a newly recorded album and other projects in the coming months. The nineteen musicians performing tomorrow at 1:00 PM at the Zaldibar fronton are composed of current and former students of the school, along with other musicians from the region. They have prepared a seven-song repertoire featuring blues, soul, and rock tunes, alternating between instrumental and vocal pieces.
Furthermore, the Arrasate Musikal Big Band Gazte, formed in 2018, will also perform at 7:00 PM at the Mondragon Hotel. This group consists of twelve members and will present a concert with a strong rock influence alongside blues. The association Mugarik Gabeko Musikariak will present an award to the young band.
The Big Band Berri, formed 20 years ago at the Luis Aramburu Municipal Music School in Gasteiz, will also be present. "We have a long-standing relationship with the Arrasate school," they stated, and they are eager to perform a repertoire that includes jazz and Brazilian music touches, in addition to blues.
The Barcelona Blues Big Band, coming from Barcelona and led by double bassist Ivan Kovacevic, will be the fourth guest. Organizers highlighted that they will perform "alongside vocalist Noa Egiguren, who has a close connection with Arrasate Blues," and added that this band is "one of the main references in rhythm and blues," describing the opportunity to see a band that performs on "top stages across Europe" live in Arrasate as "a great luxury."
