The session, starting at 7:00 PM, will screen four works related to the world of alpinism, climbing, trail running, and extreme skiing. Among the proposals, Cantos y Flores, directed by Julen Elorza from Arrasate, stands out.
This film follows runners Karina Carsolio and Hillary Gerardi on a sporting and emotional journey through Bolivia's most emblematic mountains. Both will attempt to complete the best ascent and descent times of Huayna Potosí, Illimani, and Sajama, while Carsolio relives the unfulfilled dream she shared with her deceased brother. The short film won the Best Sports and Adventure Film award at Mendi Film 2025.
The program will also include two other Basque productions. Izarren zaunka, by Nagore Eceiza Mujika from Donostia, portrays a climbing day in Txindoki by Iker Uranga and Mikel Saez de Urabain, addressing themes such as anxiety, physical pain, and the search for personal balance in the mountains. Meanwhile, Un día al año, by Alfonso García from Getxo, recovers the history of the Atxarte Carnival, a tradition born over half a century ago within the Basque climbing community.
The session will conclude with Trango, an impressive American production directed by Leo Hoorn. This film documents the first expedition to successfully ski down the Great Trango Glacier in the Karakoram, led by Christina “Lusti” Lustenberger alongside Jim Morrison, Nick McNutt, and Chantel Astorga. The film combines spectacular images with the narrative of an extreme expedition marked by risk and teamwork.
Mendi Tour continues to consolidate itself as one of the great showcases for adventure and nature cinema. In this 2026 season, the circuit will reach around 50 localities and has already gathered nearly 9,500 spectators since January. Tickets for the Arrasate session will cost 5 euros and can be purchased both at the box office and through the municipal website. All short films will be screened in their original version –Basque, Spanish, and English– with subtitles prepared by Mendi Film.
