The Plenary Session of the Bergara Town Hall has approved a motion concerning the labor dispute of the workers at the company ITASUA. Through this motion, the Town Hall aims to promote dialogue and negotiation to find a solution to the conflict.
The ITASUA workers in Bergara have been on an indefinite strike since July 13. According to the motion presented by the workers' representatives, a negotiation table was established between the company and the representatives at the end of 2025 to negotiate the company agreement for the 2026-2028 period. After several meetings, negotiations stalled, and the Bergara workers decided to go on strike, deeming the working conditions offered by the company insufficient.
Among the workers' main demands is the equalization of working conditions at the Bergara site with those of workers at other ITASUA centers in Gipuzkoa and the achievement of a dignified agreement that considers the Gipuzkoa centers.
In an effort to find a solution to the conflict, the workers' representatives also requested mediation from the Council of Labor Relations of Gipuzkoa on July 23, but no agreement was reached during that meeting.
With the approval of the motion, the Bergara Town Hall has agreed to contact the company and promote the conditions for a negotiation table, aiming to reach a dignified agreement and take steps towards resolving the labor dispute.
Furthermore, the Town Hall has expressed its support and adherence to the public mobilization called by the unions ELA and LAB, with the backing of the workers, for September 24.
Through the approval of this motion, the Bergara Town Hall has reaffirmed its commitment to dialogue and negotiation, to facilitate an agreement between the workers and the company and to move towards resolving the conflict.
