Bergara will be the main venue this Sunday, hosting 200 mayors and 500 guests to celebrate two significant anniversaries: the abolition of the Fueros, which marks 150 years, and the Mayors' Movement, founded in this very town in 1976, reaching its 50th anniversary.
In 1976, 70 mayors responded to a similar call to advocate for the Basque language, Navarre as a Basque territory, and historical rights. Today, the General Deputy of Gipuzkoa, Eider Mendoza, and the mayor of the town, Gorka Artola, among others, will speak at the central event held in Usondo park.
The event will include a procession, similar to the past, which will conclude in Usondo park due to ongoing works in the main square. The march will depart from Seminarixoa at 11:50 AM, with the main ceremony commencing at 12:00 PM. A tribute will be paid to four mayors from 1976: Jose Luis Elkoro, Jose Antonio Altuna 'Txatillo', Javier Errazti, and Luis Mari Ajuriagerra.
Participating dance groups include Oñatz (Oñati), Udaberri (Tolosa), Urki (Andoain), and Argia (Donostia), along with dancer Manex Alberdi. The musical lineup features the Et Incarnatus orchestra, the txistularis of Bergara, Aita Madina (Oñati), several choirs and singers, and guitarist Angel Unzu.
